Exercise Care But Don’t Let Your Vascular Health Suffer
Your vascular health is too important to ignore, even at a time like this. Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) is the leading cause of limb loss in America, but few even know it exists. It is estimated that more than 18 million Americans suffer from PAD¹. And a whopping 160,000-plus PAD-related amputations are performed annually in the US each year².
What to Watch For
The two most significant issues in diagnosing PAD are that many people don’t exhibit symptoms in the early stages, and if they do have symptoms, they’re often mistaken for other issues. A few things to look for include:
- Leg or foot wounds that are slow to heal
- Unexplained leg pain or cramping, especially during exercise or walking
- Skin problems or discoloration on legs and feet, poor nail growth
Even if you don’t have symptoms, it is important to know your risk factors so that you can talk to your doctor about PAD. The top ones are:
- A history of smoking
- Diabetes
- Advanced age
- High blood pressure
- Excess weight
- A family history of PAD
- High cholesterol
If you’re experiencing any of the symptoms described or are concerned about your risk factors, please come see us.
The Amputation Epidemic
Many lower extremity amputations performed in the United States are done without any prior vascular testing. This should not be! Amputation should never be based on subjective opinion, but rather, objective findings. This is why it is incredibly important to seek the guidance of experienced vascular specialists like Lam Vascular & Associates.
Dr. Russell Lam is credited with preventing thousands of leg amputations. Standing up for your vascular health isn’t just about saving your limb – it may just be about saving your life. Stand up for your health, your life and your limbs with Lam Vascular & Associates. We are Standing Stronger Together, Texas.
